A lakeside neighbourhood inside Setapak. The lake is a DBKL park and a flood-retention pond at once; beside it stands the newly renamed KIPMall Setapak.

The short answer
Danau Kota is a residential neighbourhood in Setapak. Its park, Taman Tasik Danau Kota, is run by DBKL, with an outdoor gym, a children’s playground, a plaza, a wakaf and a jogging track of about 1.5 km around the lake; it is open daily from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm. DBKL says the lake also serves as a flood-retention pond. Beside it is KIPMall Setapak (formerly Setapak Central). Danau Kota is in the P.116 Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat.

Taman Tasik Danau Kota
DBKL’s Malay-language page lists an outdoor gym, a children’s playground, a plaza, a wakaf, a jogging track of about 1.5 km around the lake, public toilets and parking, with the park open daily from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm; visitors must follow the 2012 park by-laws. Bernama reported in May 2026 that DBKL had extended the hours of 10 parks, Danau Kota among them, to 5:30 am–10:00 pm.

How big is the lake?
From the shoreline OpenStreetMap records: about 6.6 hectares of water, roughly 380 m from east to west and 325 m from north to south.

Also a flood-retention pond
OpenStreetMap records the lake as “Kolam Takungan Banjir Danau Kota”, the Danau Kota flood-retention pond. In June 2026, after dead fish appeared on the lake, DBKL said the lake serves both as a leisure park and as a flood-retention pond, and put the deaths down to continuous heavy rain lowering the oxygen in the water. DBKL cleared the fish, fitted trash traps at the inlets and sampled the water with the Federal Territory Department of Environment.

A mall, a market and a hawker centre
KIPMall Setapak
Formerly Setapak Central; bought and renamed by KIP REIT in September 2026. DBKL describes the lake park as built beside this mall.

A proposed MRT station
One of the Circle Line’s interim station names is “Danau Kota”. The line is still a proposal; names and locations are as MRT Corp finally announces them.
