Four names,
one map.

Wangsa Maju, Sri Rampai, Setapak and Danau Kota share the north-east corner of Kuala Lumpur. They run into one another, and no official line divides them. Find each one on the map first, then take them one at a time.

Map: © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL), snapshot of 16 October 2026. Names sit at the points OpenStreetMap records for them; the lit line is the Kelana Jaya Line, the dashed line the proposed MRT Circle Line.

The short answer

These four neighbourhoods of north-east Kuala Lumpur run into one another. Wangsa Maju is a DBKL new town opened in 1984. Sri Rampai lies to its south, with a lake park and KJ4 on the LRT. Setapak is the larger, older district: it has no official boundary and spans four parliamentary seats. Danau Kota sits inside Setapak, around its lake park. In the north-east, the LRT Kelana Jaya Line has five stations: Gombak, Taman Melati, Wangsa Maju, Sri Rampai and Setiawangsa.

On signs, lists and maps

One place, several spellings

Wangsa Maju
Short for “Bandar Baru Titiwangsa Maju”, the name given at the 1984 opening.
Sri Rampai
“Sri Rampai” on the LRT station and in DBKL’s lists; “Seri Rampai” in the names of its schools.
Setapak
The older, wider name, with no gazetted boundary; DBKL’s lists and the polling-district names come closest to drawing one.
Danau Kota
The park is Taman Tasik Danau Kota; OpenStreetMap records the lake as “Kolam Takungan Banjir Danau Kota”.
Setiawangsa
KJ5 on the LRT, and the name of parliamentary seat P.118.

Chinese-language newspapers have their own names for all five places; the Chinese edition of this guide uses them.
