05:30The lake gardens open

Three lakes,
one scale.

Some of north-east Kuala Lumpur’s lakes are parks; some are flood-retention ponds as well. See their sizes side by side at one scale first, then the opening times and rules, one park at a time.

Tasik Sri Rampai

2.0 ha of water

Danau Kota retention pond

6.6 ha of water

Air Leleh retention pond (Setapak)

2.2 ha of water

The three bodies of water are drawn to one scale. Outlines and areas are calculated from OpenStreetMap (snapshot of 16 October 2026) and are not official figures: Tasik Sri Rampai about 2.0 ha, Danau Kota about 6.6 ha, Air Leleh about 2.2 ha.

The short answer

DBKL runs two lake gardens in the north-east: Taman Tasik Sri Rampai (3.4 hectares) and Taman Tasik Danau Kota, both open daily from 5:30 to 22:00. A little further out, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa covers 46.13 hectares; it was once a mining lake and opened as a park in 1980. Zoo Negara officially opened on 14 November 1963. To hike in Selangor’s permanent forest reserves, you need a permit from the Selangor Forestry Department.

Before you hike

Hiking in a Selangor forest reserve? Get a permit first.

The Selangor Forestry Department issues a forest entry (hiking) permit for Selangor’s permanent forest reserves. The conditions on the application form: paper applications go in at least a week before the hike; hikes at 600 m above sea level or higher need a hired mountain guide and a report to the nearest police station; hikers keep to existing trails and may not open new ones. The department also runs an online permit system.

According to a 2019 New Straits Times report, the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge runs for more than 14 km and is about 200 m wide. For which stretches need a permit, and whether any are closed for now, check the Forestry Department’s latest notices.
